Essay on "Contribution of Physics to the Society"

Essay on “Contribution of Physics to the Society”

The contribution of Physics to society is immense. Its application plays an important role in our day-to-day life and its role is undepictable. We get up in the morning from the ringing of our alarm clocks and go to bed at night after switching our lights off, from walking, talking, and playing to the rotation revolution of the earth around the sun. All these luxurious and day-to-day things that we are able to use or observe are a result of physics and its research which contributes to our society. It is hard to imagine our life without advancing in the field of physics. Every day, new technologies are coming up, making human life easier and more comfortable. The development of Physics in technology contributes greatly to almost every aspect of our daily life. Hence, people get the chance to enjoy these results which make our lives more relaxed and pleasurable.

Society relies on technology which represents the importance of physics in daily life. Many parameters of modern society wouldn’t have been possible without the important scientific discoveries made in past. These discoveries became the foundation on which current technologies were developed. Discoveries such as magnetism, electricity, conductors, and others made modern conveniences such as television, computers, smartphones, and other technologies possible. Modern means of transportation, such as aircraft and telecommunication, have drawn people across the world closer together – all of these are directly related to Physics. Physics extends and enhances our understanding of other fields, such as the earth, agriculture, chemical biological and environmental sciences, astrophysics, and cosmology. Physics improves our quality of life by providing the basic understanding necessary for medical applications, such as computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography, ultrasonic imaging, and laser surgery.

Physicists played an essential role in the development of the transistor which is the basis of all modern electronics, including radio, television, computers, and telecommunications. The Laser and Laser diode is now used or used in early times in CD players, grocery bar code scanners, medical treatment, and telecommunications.

The discovery of electricity was the first modern scientific marvel. It has altered our way of life, society, and culture. It’s a fantastic source of power and energy. The radio and television light, fans, electric iron, mills, factories, and refrigerators are all powered by electricity.

Fiber optics: now it is finding widespread application in high-speed data and voice or digital transmission networks. The telecommunication industry including the development of the internet has benefited from physics research in telecommunications from radio waves to fiber optic cable.

The Global Positioning System (GPS): uses satellite and precise timing to allow positions to be allocated to within a few feet anywhere on the surface of the earth.

The technology industry depends on physics research in semiconductors and magnetism in order to build processors and disk-like hard drives, solid-state drives, and even improve to reduce the size and denser components.

Research in the field of chemicals has helped in the production of artificial fertilizers, which are now a basic requirement for all agricultural activities. Agricultural education is now taught in schools across the country. Scientists have gone so far as to study the genomic makeup of plants in order to select crops that can withstand harsh climate changes. Improved farming techniques have been developed using new technologies such as computer science and biotechnology. Physics has played an important role in agriculture, and the two cannot be separated. Physics must be used to help produce better yields on a small piece of land in order for the world to be able to provide enough food for all of its citizens.

Transportation and communication: Physics has simplified and shortened our communication. Ships, boats, trains, buses, and cars can be found on the seas, rivers, and roads. All of these are scientific gifts. Telegraph, telephone, fax, and wireless communication are also important modes of communication. Trains, steamers, airplanes, automated cars, buses, and other modes of transportation make communication quick and easy.

Medicine and Surgery:

o   It elevates one’s overall standard of living and quality of life, as well as one’s life expectancy.

o   It aids in the detection and treatment of diseases, ailments, and conditions.

o   It teaches researchers, doctors, scientists, and even laypeople about living a healthy lifestyle.

o   It dissects the molecular mechanism of any disease and helps to develop drugs and pharmaceuticals.

Physics is used in environmental science to both detect problems and to build systems that are better for the environment with technologies such as solar power, hydropower, nuclear power, etc.

Conclusion: Physics and its inventions/discoveries, including the theory of the origin of the universe, the theory of motion, and every aspect of physical explanation given to various fields of physics have given humanity many hints relating to human existence from civilized and cultural point of view. Science and technology have had an immeasurable influence on the formation of our understanding of the world, our view of society, and our outlook on nature. The wide variety of discoveries produced by humanity has led to the building and development of the civilizations of each age, stimulated economic growth, raised people’s standards of living, encouraged cultural development, and had a tremendous impact on religion, thought, and many other human activities. The impact of Physics on modern society is broad and wide-ranging, influencing such areas as politics, diplomacy, defense, the economy, medicine, transportation, agriculture, social media, and many more. However, the relationship between physics and society is assuming many shapes with the changing times.

In the present, squarely addressing the relationship between Physics and society is an essential challenge to the sound development of science and technology, which it is essential to continue addressing in the future based on historical and civilized perspectives, while also maintaining a deep awareness of the needs of times.
